Yes Magazine+ App Questions

  • My issue download is slow or has stalled. What’s the problem?
Sorry for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, there’s not much we can do on the slow speed. It could just be that the Amazon server (where we store our issues) in your area is moving slowly at that moment you were downloading, or your internet service provider (ISP) is throttling your bandwidth on large downloads.

The best thing to do is to try again later. Hopefully, it was just slow at that particular time.

Also, the issue should keep downloading when the iPad goes to sleep, but not if you quit the app.
  • How do I get an issue of Yes Magazine+?
Sorry for the trouble you’re having. First, make sure you’re on the latest version of the app by going into your “App Store” app, and check “Updates”. (The latest version is 5.2) Also, the app works best if you are on the latest version of iOS. (The latest is 9.1).

When you purchase a subscription or a single issue, the current issue should appear in your Library. This is accessed by tapping the “Library” button in the navigation menu, which you can call up by long-tapping the screen. There, you should see the issue with a “Download” button.

Once downloaded, you can tap the green “Read” button to open it. If you’re seeing prices, you’re in the “Store” and can tap the “Library” button to get back.

If it does not show up there, you can hit the “Missing Issues?” button in the navigation menu and sign in with the iTunes account you used to purchase the subscription or single issue. It then should reset your permissions and make that issue appear for download.

In some cases, after tapping the "Missing issues?" button, entitlements are not restored until the app is closed and restarted. If you are experiencing this problem, follow these steps:

    1. After updating, tap the "Missing issues?" button and let the app complete the process
    2. Force quit the app using these instructions
    3. Restart the app and check for entitlements in the Library
  • How do I request a refund?
I’m sorry for all the trouble you are having. Unfortunately, per iTunes “Terms and Conditions”, all purchases are considered final, and developers are not allowed to refund customers. Your transaction was with Apple directly, so we do not even have access to the transaction record or credit card you used to purchase. You can, however, contact iTunes Customer Support to request a refund here: http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/

To make sure that your subscription does not auto-renew at the end of the term, launch the App Store on your iPad and make sure you're viewing the Featured tab. Scroll to the bottom, tap on the Apple ID button, and then select View Apple ID. Enter your password if requested. In the middle of the screen under the subscriptions section you'll see a button titled Manage. Selecting an active subscription will show you the current price and the renewal date. Slide the Auto-Renewal switch to the Off position if you'd like to cancel your subscription to the respective service.
  • I’m getting a message that I need to “Purchase the app before they can purchase the issue”. What can I do?
This will happen if your are signed into a different iTunes account than the one you used to download the app initially. If you need to sign into a different account, quit out of the app entirely, open "Settings" and scroll down to "iTunes and App Stores", where you will see your account name. Sign out and sign back in there, then go back into the app and attempt your purchase again, or tap the "Missing Issues?" button to restore previous purchases.

  • Can I access content on a second iPad?
You can access the same subscription on up to five iPads as long as you are signed into the same iTunes account the subscription was originally purchased with. Just download the app on your second iPad, and hit the “Missing Issues?” button in the navigation menu in “Library”. Then, sign into the iTunes account you used to purchase the subscription or issues originally – that should reset your permissions.

  • The app is crashing repeatedly. What can I do?
First, try restarting your iPad and then restarting the app. If this does not work, check your operating system by going into your iPad's Settings app, and then to General > About. There is a known error with our app and iOS version 5.0.1. If your iPad is running this version, please upgrade to the latest version and restart the app. You may have to hit the "Missing Issues?" button to restore your purchases when you restart the app.

  • The “Missing Issues?” button doesn’t restore my issues/I haven’t received the most recent issue
Sorry for your trouble. If you are a subscriber, each new issue should automatically download to your device and appear in your in-app Library, which you can access by tapping the screen to bring up the navigation and tapping Library. Sometimes a communication error prevents this from happening, in which case you might have to download the issue manually by tapping the Download button next to the issue. If the issue is only in your Store and not in your Library, do not purchase the issue again—you will be charged for it and per iTunes Terms and Conditions, we cannot issue refunds directly to customers. Instead, tap the "Missing Issues?" button and, when prompted, sign into the iTunes account you originally purchased the issue or subscription with. If the account is not the same, the restore will not work.

If you need to sign into a different account, quit out of the app entirely, open "Settings" and scroll down to "iTunes and App Stores", where you will see your account name. Sign out and sign back in there, then go back into the app and attempt to restore again by tapping "Missing Issues?".

  • I have lost access to back issues I’ve purchased. What do I do?
Sorry for your trouble. When you upgrade the system or when the iPad runs low on memory, it sometimes wipes the memory cache where in-app downloads are stored. If you hit the “Missing Issues?” button in the navigation (on the right side of the screen in the Library interface) and sign in with the same iTunes account you used to buy the issues originally, it should reset your subscription and issues, and you won’t have to pay again.
